Approved by the U. S. Food and Drug Administration in both original form and as an extended-release product, Ciprofloxacin is an antibiotic medication that has been approved for use in adults and children aged 12 and older. It is used to treat a variety of bacterial infections, including urinary tract infections (UTIs), respiratory tract infections, skin infections, and certain types of bone and joint infections. Ciprofloxacin tablets and capsules come in a variety of forms, including capsules, tablets, and extended-release (ER) products. Ciprofloxacin is also available in a variety of dosage strengths, including 500 mg, 1,200 mg, and 625 mg. The recommended starting dose of Ciprofloxacin for adults is 1 gram twice daily for the first three days of treatment, followed by a dosage of 2.5 grams twice daily for the next three days. If your infection is severe or lasts longer than 4 days, contact your healthcare provider immediately. Ciprofloxacin tablets and capsules may contain excipients that may affect the tablets, including particles or rubbery texture, and should not be handled or refrigerated. The excipients may vary, and the manufacturer may not approve how they should be used, or how long they should be used. It is important to use Ciprofloxacin exactly as directed by your healthcare provider. Do not use Ciprofloxacin capsules or tablets more often or for longer than prescribed by your healthcare provider. If you miss a dose of Ciprofloxacin and become sickle anemia (an unusual or syphillus condition), contact your healthcare provider. Use the medication as soon as you remember it is time for the next dose. Most patients do not experience any adverse reactions when using Ciprofloxacin, but if you experience any unusual symptoms or have concerns about your infection, get medical attention immediately.

This is a cross-sectional study conducted between January and March 2020. All patients who have been enrolled in the study were enrolled between January 2018 and March 2020 and followed up for the period of 4-12 weeks. The patients were enrolled only if they had a diagnosis of COPD according to the WHO/IVRS Guidelines for the prevention of pneumonia and/or bronchitis. The study population was stratified by age and sex as follows: women, ≥40 years; and men, ≥40 years. The inclusion criteria were as follows: patients with a duration of at least 8 weeks of hospitalization for pneumonia and/or bronchitis; and patients who had a diagnosis of COPD according to the WHO/IVRS Guidelines for the prevention of pneumonia and/or bronchitis. Patients with a history of bronchiolitis as well as patients with a history of COPD were excluded. Finally, a total of 548 patients (n = 532, mean age = 49.9 years) with a history of COPD were enrolled in the study.
The demographic and clinical characteristics of the study population are presented in Table.
Table 1. Demographic and clinical characteristics of the study populationTable 2. Number of patients enrolled in the studyTable 3. Clinical characteristicsTable 4. Patient characteristics
The prevalence of pneumonia and/or bronchitis among the patients enrolled in the study was significantly higher than the prevalence of COPD in both sexes (3.4% vs. 1.6%; p = 0.04). The mean duration of hospitalization for pneumonia and/or bronchitis was 1.9 and 1.8 weeks, respectively (Table ).
Mean and 95% confidence intervals for the prevalence of pneumonia and bronchitis among patients enrolled in the studyTable 5.Table 6.Table 7.Table 8.In the present study, the prevalence of pneumonia was higher in women than in men, but the mean duration of hospitalization for pneumonia and/or bronchitis was higher in women (2.7 and 5.5 weeks, respectively) than in men (2.6 and 6.6 weeks, respectively). The reasons for higher prevalence of pneumonia in women than in men include a lower proportion of female patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and a shorter duration of hospitalization for pneumonia and/or bronchitis (3.2 and 5.
